'My dad converted from Catholicism to Christianity'... Which I guess is how Evangelicals see it?

Whoops, old vocab dies hard, I’ll fix that, thank you!

It wasn't really a corrective issue! Growing up I was taught to treat Catholics almost as non-Christians...

Same! And I don’t believe that anymore so I appreciate the call out!

Imagine weird christian twitter being a better witness than the guy with his name on the front of the Bible.

I’m so glad you shared your story. It takes bravery, especially considering some of the people who will undoubtedly see it. I hope that more read it and decide to share their own stories—or at least understand that they’re not alone.

Thanks for sharing, Meg. We don’t realize how cult-like our associations are until we challenge the zeitgeist. While I did not deconstruct until much later, I had a similar first church experience.

I look forward to more stories!

This story does not read like it was written by a real person. I’m sure you’re real, it’s just not written from the heart. The way you bullet point ALL of the current event controversies is….bizarre. Also, why are you trying to prove you were associated with these people? With pictures etc? Who starts off trying to prove they are who they say they are? So, I just wonder who is paying you?

Also, I wanted to share this article I wrote, which connects to so much of what you've said here. https://thesisterwild.substack.com/p/im-a-researcher-who-studies-gender

It's good to read your journey, very relatable. I'm sorry for what you've had to endure.

On my own journey and boy, is it ever a long, long winding path. It never ends but somehow we're able to grow a little stronger every day. Finding our own voices. Thinking our own thoughts. It's beautiful here.

Infinity gender religion is incompatible with Christianity. When I meet a Buddhist (and I have a second home in Japan), I don't incorporate Buddhism into my belief system, instead, I respect the Buddhist, I treat the Buddhist with dignity as a human made in the image of God, but I absolutely do not absorb the Buddhist's belief system. When rainbow religion tells me that there are unlimited numbers of genders and that men with male pattern baldness belong in my daughter's change room and boys full of testosterone get to steal away girl's trophies (ironically, the patriarchy usurping feminism in the name of feminism), I refuse to capitulate and bend my knee. Leftism is a religion in and of itself, and it is incompatible with Christianity. I do not believe in this religion any more than I believe in Buddhism. Keep your dogma out of schools. Stop trying to forcibly convert my children into your religion. Teaching my kids wacky pronouns, religious rainbow symbols, unscientific nonsense like "doctors only guess gender at birth" is no different than sending my kids to a mosque. It doesn't belong in schools. Feminists proselytize their rainbow beliefs as fiercely as any white Caucasian pastor. You deconstructed from one religion and converted into another....good for you, it happens all the time in this world in all kinds of various religions. I have nothing against your conversion into infinity gender religion. I have everything against shoving it on children in public schools and imposing your patriarchal "feminism" on my daughter.

I love this idea for a Substack. My own is dedicated to attempting to answer the issues that had me begin my theological trudging in what I call my Paul Bettany Experience. I look forward to reading more.

Thank you for this.

My own church’s pastor also happened to be the chair of the board of directors of a large local hospital in 2020.

I think that experience (hearing from doctors & hospital staff) really informed his views as the pandemic dragged on…

Thankful for your posts. My story parallels yours in many ways. I am so sorry for all that you had to go through. As someone who had a brutal deconstruction and yet found some way to cling to Christ I hope that Christ continues to bring you hope and peace.
